Welcome to my site – a hub of collaborative creativity research, teaching and impact. I research how people collaborate to solve problems or create something. Specifically, I investigate how individuals deal with constraints as they collaborate. More often than not, we need to be creative in a way that is compatible with the constraints we face. Sometimes, we choose our own constraints. Other times, they are imposed on us.

When we work with others on creative projects, how do we reconcile our different constraints? Why do some ideas evolve and succeed while others fail? It is fascinating to explore these questions in large organizations, startups, public-private partnerships and informal groups.

The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one’s self of the chains that shackle the spirit.
